Anam Cara presented three free concerts of works by Don Carlo Gesualdo (c1560 - 1613) and Adrian Willaert (c1490 - 1562). Gesualdo, Prince of Venosa, nephew of Saint Charles Borromeo, and notorious as a murderer, composed exquisite choral music using innovative harmonies and chromaticism that in some ways are evocative of 20th century compositions. Adrian Willaert was born Flemish but moved to Italy and founded the Venetian School of music. 2007 January Concert Poster

Anam Cara presented Ralph Vaughan Williams' Mass in g minor. Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) was interested in the historical traditions of English choral music and based this composition on the music of the renowned 16th-century composer, Thomas Tallis. Rich and melodic, the Mass in g minor is one of the most complex choral compositions of the 20th century. We also performed three motets by Irish composer Sir Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924). 2006 Spring Poster
