Concert Schedule

2010 Spring Program -- Anam Cara will present two free concerts featuring music of Felix Mendelssohn in honor of the 200th anniversary of Mendelssohn's birth.

The concerts are scheduled for Saturday May 8, 2010, 7:30 pm in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Ketchum, Idaho and Sunday May 9, 2010, 5:30 pm (Mother's Day) at 665 John Adams Parkway (across the street from the 4th Street Post Office) in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Admission is free, donations will be gratefully accepted.

2009 Fall Program -- Performed in Idaho Falls, Idaho and Ketchum, Idaho

On November 21 and November 22, 2009 Anam Cara presented free concerts of music by the great William Byrd (c1540-1623), including several motets and Byrd's ethereally beautiful "Mass for Four Voices". The concert juxtaposed the different composition styles of homophonic music and polyphonic music. 2009 Fall Concert Poster


2009 Spring Program -- Performed in Idaho Falls, Idaho and Ketchum, Idaho

On May 9 and May 10, 2009 Anam Cara presented free concerts featuring composers preceding J.S. Bach, including Heinrich Shutz and others. Anam Cara performed Schutz's "Deutsches Magnificat" (1671), and Schutz's Dialogue for Easter "Woman Why Weepest Thou? On May 30, and June 1, 2008 Anam Cara presented free concerts titled "Red Hot and Blue Too" of Jazz, Blues, and Show Tunes. 2008 Spring Concert Poster


2007-2008 Winter Program -- Performed in Idaho Falls, Idaho

On February 3 2008 Anam Cara presented a free concert of Music of the Flemish Renaissance featuring works by Josquin des Prez (ca. 1440-1521). The performances included "El Grillo" (The Cricket), "Missa La Sol Fa Re Mi", "Ave Maria - Virgo Serena" and other songs. Many consider Josquin to be an original master of renaissance polyphonic music. 2008 Winter Concert Poster

Anam Cara regrets that due to severe weather and road closures we had to cancel the concert scheduled for February 1, 2008 in Ketchum, Idaho.


2007 Spring Program -- Performed in Idaho Falls, ID; Ketchum, Idaho; and Jackson, WY

In May 2007 Anam Cara presented three free concerts of of "Psalm of David" by 20th Century American Composer Norman Dello Joio. This dramatic and exciting work was first performed in 1951. We know of no commercial recordings currently available. The concerts also included performances of John Tavener's "Two Hymns to the Mother of God" which were first performed in 1985. 2007 May Concert Poster

2006-2007 Winter Program in January of 2007. -- Performed in Idaho Falls, ID; Hailey, Idaho; and Jackson, WY

Anam Cara presented three free concerts of works by Don Carlo Gesualdo (c1560 - 1613) and Adrian Willaert (c1490 - 1562). Gesualdo, Prince of Venosa, nephew of Saint Charles Borromeo, and notorious as a murderer, composed exquisite choral music using innovative harmonies and chromaticism that in some ways are evocative of 20th century compositions. 2006 Spring Program -- Performed in Idaho Falls, ID; Ketchum, ID; and Jackson, WY

Anam Cara presented Ralph Vaughan Williams' Mass in g minor. Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) was interested in the historical traditions of English choral music and based this composition on the music of the renowned 16th-century composer, Thomas Tallis. Rich and melodic, the Mass in g minor is one of the most complex choral compositions of the 20th century. We also performed three motets by Irish composer Sir Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924). 2006 Spring Poster

In honor of the 500th Birthday of Thomas Tallis, Anam Cara performed three concerts of the composer's hauntingly beautiful music for voice. 2005 Fall Poster

2005 Spring Program -- Performed in Idaho Falls, Idaho; and twice in Ketchum, Idaho

"Immence Ranges of High Mountains". Anam Cara joined with the Caritas Chorale of Sun Valley in performing an original oratorio based on the Lewis and Clark expedition with emphasis on Sacagawea and the Native Americans of Idaho. This large and exciting work for chorus, soloists and orchestra, commissioned by Dick Brown, is set to an original libretto by Diane Josephy Peavey with music composed by David Earnest.
